NEW DATES!

The 2020 Pic’s Peanut Butter Starling National Championship originally scheduled to take place in April, has been rescheduled to the 27th – 30th September.

This page will be updated with the amended Notice of Race and an updated entry form shortly.

Nelson Yacht Club and the Starling Class Association are delighted to have finalised new dates for the 2020 Nationals. The new dates, which mean racing on Sunday – Wednesday during the first week of the school holidays, were chosen to leave time for sailors/families to travel to Nelson without having to miss school. They also allow time after the regatta for families to holiday in the region, or travel back north for the Murray’s Bay Winter Champs & the NZL Sailing Foundation Youth Trials, or to study for NCEA mock exams etc…

We’ve got some great sponsors on board, but we’re still looking for more, as well as support from the community with volunteers and equipment to help us put on a fantastic event! For more information please contact manager@nelsonyachtclub.org.nz

Coronavirus Statement:

Nelson Yacht Club is hopeful that we will be able to run the regatta without significant restrictions come September. However, the club would like to assure competitors and families that we will continue to monitor the Covid-19 situation and follow official guidance and best practice for events from the Government, Sport NZ and Yachting NZ.

  • Alert Level 4 – Event will be cancelled
  • Alert Level 3 – Event will be cancelled
  • Alert Level 2 – Event will go ahead unless gathering limits make it impractical
  • Alert Level 1 – Event will go ahead with any recommended precautions in place

If the alert level is raised to 3 or 4 or gathering restrictions at level 2 make the running of the event impractical, and it becomes necessary to cancel the event, all payments made to NYC by competitors in relation to the event will be refunded in full.

Competitors & families who are unwell or have possible symptoms, or who have come into contact with a known case of Covid-19 are encouraged not to travel to the event, and NYC will offer a full refund.

Huge thanks to Pic’s Peanut Butter our headline sponsor:

Mr. Pic Picot himself used to sail a Starling – no wonder he’s a winner! 😉

We are stoked to have Pic’s as our headline sponsor, and very grateful for the support. If you haven’t already, be sure to try their really good peanut butter. Make a trip to the Pic’s Peanut Butter World as part of your visit to Nelson too!

Massive thanks to our gold sponsors:

Scott Construction made fantastic work of repairing the club’s deck after the storm surge damage in 2018, and have very kindly come on board as a gold sponsor.

Sealord need no introduction, and it is great to have such a household name, and a global (yet Nelson based) brand on board as a gold sponsor.

Sealord’s global net spans seven continents and the company delivers more than $500 million worth of seafood to people in more than 30 countries each year. Sealord employs around 1,000 people throughout New Zealand, many of them based here in Nelson

Wendy Pearson & Debbie Watson have been making big moves in the Nelson Tasman Real Estate market – we think you’ll love the region and want to move here – they can help 🙂 For locals thinking of selling, make sure you list your property with them!

Hampidjan NZ Ltd – “It’s not all about selling quality products, it’s about solving our clients problems”. Hampidjan provide a full range of netting, twine and rope (including wire rope) and an extensive range of hardware and fittings (including stainless steel) and products for commercial fishing, logging, yachting, engineering, heavy lifting, building and many other industries.

Burnsco are the biggest seller of marine and motorhome equipment nationwide, and are a fantastic supporter of both Nelson Yacht Club and yachting in general. They are also an official supplier to ETNZ for the 2021 America’s Cup!

Thanks to our silver sponsors

Nahm is a fantastic dining experience, upstairs in the Nelson Yacht Club building. Delicious food and great views! Make sure you take advantage of a special 10% discount voucher that will be included in registration packs!

Kiwi Silent Disco will be providing headsets for the ‘AP Silent Disco’. If we are under AP ashore, you’ll be able to check out a set of headphones and either get pumped up for the day ahead, or chill out with some relaxed beats and save your energy for the racing – you’ll be able to select from 2-3 channels of music! Please don’t take them on the water though! 😉

The NPD fuel station in the Port is where we go for fuel, and you should too! It is on the corner of Vickerman St and Wildman Avenue. Alternatively there is a 24hr Self Service discount station at 76-82 St Vincent Street, Toi-Toi, Nelson.
