The 2020 Pic’s Peanut Butter Starling National Championship originally scheduled to take place in April, has been rescheduled to the 27th – 30th September.
This page will be updated with the amended Notice of Race and an updated entry form shortly.
Nelson Yacht Club and the Starling Class Association are delighted to have finalised new dates for the 2020 Nationals. The new dates, which mean racing on Sunday – Wednesday during the first week of the school holidays, were chosen to leave time for sailors/families to travel to Nelson without having to miss school. They also allow time after the regatta for families to holiday in the region, or travel back north for the Murray’s Bay Winter Champs & the NZL Sailing Foundation Youth Trials, or to study for NCEA mock exams etc…
We’ve got some great sponsors on board, but we’re still looking for more, as well as support from the community with volunteers and equipment to help us put on a fantastic event! For more information please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
Notice of Race:
Will be posted here after normal entries have closed and they have been finalised, but no later than 23:59 on Saturday 12th September.
Nelson Yacht Club is hopeful that we will be able to run the regatta without significant restrictions come September. However, the club would like to assure competitors and families that we will continue to monitor the Covid-19 situation and follow official guidance and best practice for events from the Government, Sport NZ and Yachting NZ.
- Alert Level 4 – Event will be cancelled
- Alert Level 3 – Event will be cancelled
- Alert Level 2 – Event will go ahead unless gathering limits make it impractical
- Alert Level 1 – Event will go ahead with any recommended precautions in place
If the alert level is raised to 3 or 4 or gathering restrictions at level 2 make the running of the event impractical, and it becomes necessary to cancel the event, all payments made to NYC by competitors in relation to the event will be refunded in full.
Competitors & families who are unwell or have possible symptoms, or who have come into contact with a known case of Covid-19 are encouraged not to travel to the event, and NYC will offer a full refund.
Huge thanks to Pic’s Peanut Butter our headline sponsor:
Mr. Pic Picot himself used to sail a Starling – no wonder he’s a winner! 😉
We are stoked to have Pic’s as our headline sponsor, and very grateful for the support. If you haven’t already, be sure to try their really good peanut butter. Make a trip to the Pic’s Peanut Butter World as part of your visit to Nelson too!

Kiwi Silent Disco will be providing headsets for the ‘AP Silent Disco’. If we are under AP ashore, you’ll be able to check out a set of headphones and either get pumped up for the day ahead, or chill out with some relaxed beats and save your energy for the racing – you’ll be able to select from 2-3 channels of music! Please don’t take them on the water though! 😉
