Gear list:

What to bring for a sailing or windsurfing lesson/course will depend a little on whether you’re doing a taster session or a full week, and also on the weather. Below is our general advice. Feel free to give us a shout with any queries.

  • Sun block
  • Sun hat
  • Wetsuit. Full-length wetsuits are essential for spring courses, and highly recommended at any time of year.  If you don’t have one there are a range available to borrow here as well as buoyancy vests. We have a small stock of GUL Response suits, or can order in from NZsailing.com if you would like to purchase your own.
  • Waterproof / windproof jacket. This keeps the wind chill off, and is extremely important for watersports. We also have a small range to borrow if needed.
  • Footwear for wearing in the water – wetsuit booties are ideal, old trainers/sandals would be fine. Those $10 warehouse slippers tend to fall off!
  • Clothing that dries quickly and provides sun protection. Cotton T-shirts or shorts are not recommended
  • Towel
  • Thermals – lots of layers of poly-pro or merino
  • Pen
  • Logbook if you have one! (Lost ones can be replaced for $20)
  • Lunch (if appropriate) and snacks
  • Drink bottle
